A beginner's guide to Pilates in Ipswich

Thinking about starting Pilates in Ipswich but not sure where to begin? This guide covers everything a beginner needs to know: what Pilates actually is, the different class types, what to expect and how to take your first step.

What is Pilates, and who is it for?

Pilates is a form of exercise focused on strength, control, posture and breath. It builds strength you can use in everyday life, from carrying kids and groceries to sitting at a desk with less stiffness.

It's for everyday bodies. You don't need to be fit, flexible or experienced to start. Every class offers options, so you can work at your level and progress over time.

The types of Pilates classes at ALIGND

  • Reformer Pilates. Our signature class: full-body strength on the Reformer, with options for every level.

  • Reformer Pilates: Jumpboard. A Reformer class with a jumpboard for low-impact cardio that gets your heart going.

  • Mat & Reformer Fusion. The best of both, combining mat work and Reformer strength in one class.

  • Mat Pilates. Classic Pilates on the mat at The Mezz, focused on your core and control.

  • Restore and Flow. A slower, stretchier class for mobility, breath and recovery.

  • Reformer Pilates: Child friendly. Selected Reformer classes where you're welcome to bring your little ones along.

Not sure which to pick? Start with a Reformer Pilates class. It's the best all-round introduction.

Fitting Pilates into a busy week

Our timetable runs from 5:10am starts, so you're done before work, through to after-school and after-work classes and weekend mornings. Classes run for 45 minutes.

Two classes a week is a great starting point. Many people add more once the habit feels easy.

What makes a good Pilates studio for beginners?

When you're choosing a studio, look for:

  • Instructor-led classes with clear guidance, so you're never left guessing.

  • Options for every level in every class.

  • A welcoming, judgement-free atmosphere where you can be a beginner.

  • Class times that fit your life, and flexible ways to pay.

That's exactly what we've built at ALIGND.
